Meaning ‘Top of the show’, Doyenne du Comice is a dessert pear with a very rich flavour. It very juicy, buttery, melt-in-the-mouth and perfumed. Excellent quality, but moderate crops, although older trees crop more reliably; Harvest Oct/Nov, A vigorous tree in pollination group 4.
It originated in France, where it was first grown at the Comice Horticole in Angers in the 1840s.
