13. Onward - Dessert Pear
Season: Blossom late April, fruiting Sept - Oct.
Pollination: Self Sterile, Group D/E (relatively late flowering)
Rootstock: Quince A for a moderately vigourous tree
Notes
Onward was raised in 1947 at the National Fruit Trials Wisley, Surrey, UK from a cross between Laxton's Superb and Doyenne du Comice.
It is considered to be a very reliable cropper.
Onward is an Engish dessert pear not unlike Doyenne du Comice with excellent flavour and good reliable cropping
Onward pears are medium sized, and pyramid shaped. The skin is fairly smooth, pale green ripening to yellow with a pinkish red flush and patches of brown russet.
The flesh is creamy white, smooth, soft and juicy.
It has an excellent sweet flavour with just a little acidity.
