A real fairy story style red apple - very tasty too.
One of the best eating apples - sweet, juicy and very attractive. Relatively small. Keeps fairly well.
Also used for juicing and cidermaking due to its sweet juiciness.
The skin ripens from yellow to a deep, dark red - and can be polished to a high shine. The flesh is creamy white and crisp.
Season:

Can be partially self fertile, but performs best with pollination from groups A-C. Flowering Group 3.

Notes
: It is notable for being the first new breed of apple produced from a formal scientific breeding program. The apple was supposed to be a cross between two North American cultivars, the 'McIntosh' and the 'Newtown Pippin', but recently, genetic analysis showed the 'Newtown Pippin' was not one of the parents and its full parentage remains a mystery.
