11. Lapins Colt  - Sweet Cherry

Season:  blossom first appears on average in the second to third week of April (pollination group 2 to 3).

This can render it vulnerable to late frosts.

The fruits are produced mid-season, ready for eating, on average, in the second week of July.


The picking period lasts for about  ten days.

Pollination: Lapins is self-fertile and does not need a

                       pollination partner to produce fruit.

This is  a Semi-Vigorous and very productive rootstock which will grow on a wide range of soils.

Trees grown on this rootstock will reach a height of 4-5m.  and  will bear fruit within 4-5 years.

Notes

Lapins  was raised in British Columbia, Canada and first released in 1984. It grows well in warmer parts because it does not need a prolonged period of cold weather to produce a good crop of fruit. The parents of Lapins are 'Stella' and 'Van'.


It was awarded a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in 2014.

The tree has an upright and strong growth habit and bears heavy yields .Fruits are of larger than average size. They are dark red and have an excellent sweet flavour.
