3. Green Horse - Perry Pear

The fruits are large for a perry pear, and are shaped more like an apple.  The flesh is white, tinged with green, course, very sharp, astringent and juicy.  


As well as making perry, these pears are suitable for stewing and pickling.   It crushes well, readily yielding juice which is high in acid and low in tannin.


Fruiting  is Mid to late October.


Pollination:

 It is  self sterile and in pollination group E which means it is quite late flowering , but any of our group D trees should do the job.


Our tree is grown on quince A rootstock and will be quite large

The Green Hose perry pear originated in Gloucestershire, and has been known since the 1300s.
